Successful Launch of Shandong's Pilot Project for Integrated Development in Agricultural Machinery: The Dual-Channel Corn Harvester
On February 3, the kickoff meeting for Shandong Province’s pilot project on the integrated R&D, manufacturing, and application of agricultural machinery—the “Dual-Channel Corn Sub-Plot Harvester”—was successfully held in the conference room of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Qingdao Agricultural University. Qingdao Planteck Machinery Technology Co., Ltd., as the project’s core implementing entity, was represented at the meeting by General Manager Li Guoying.

The kickoff meeting was chaired by Wang Huasen, Director of the Science and Technology Office of Qingdao Agricultural University, with opening remarks delivered by Meng Xiaojun, Vice President of Qingdao Agricultural University, and Xu Zhen, Director of the Agricultural Mechanization Management Division of the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Wang NaiSheng, Chief Economist and Second-Level Inspector of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, spoke on behalf of the project’s supervising authority. He emphasized that the pilot program for the integrated development, manufacturing, and application of agricultural machinery is a crucial initiative for implementing the provincial Party Committee and provincial government’s rural revitalization strategy, promoting the upgrading of the agricultural equipment industry, and ensuring food production security. He expressed the hope that the project team would adhere to the principles of independent innovation and the integration of research and application, focus on breakthroughs in key technologies, explore replicable and scalable implementation approaches, and strive to establish a benchmark project for the integrated agricultural machinery pilot.
Professor Wang JiaSheng, Vice Dean of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Qingdao Agricultural University and the project leader, delivered a detailed report on the research objectives and specific implementation plan for this project. The experts in attendance engaged in an in-depth discussion on key issues such as the project’s implementation roadmap, the R&D pathways for critical technologies, and strategies for the translation and dissemination of research outcomes, offering comprehensive and actionable recommendations that provide robust guidance and technical support for the smooth execution of the project. The successful implementation of this project will significantly enhance the operational efficiency and data accuracy of maize breeding trials in China, meet the demands of engineering-scale and commercial breeding, and furnish essential equipment support for innovation in the seed industry. Moreover, it will serve as a pivotal demonstration and leading example for promoting high-quality development of the maize seed sector and ensuring food production security.

Qingdao Planteck Machinery Technology Co., Ltd., as the only domestic enterprise dedicated to the R&D, production, and manufacturing of intelligent equipment for field crop breeding trials, has successfully led and completed numerous national- and provincial-level projects. The company has established a specialized R&D team and possesses the capability to undertake large-scale research initiatives. It has promoted the nationwide adoption of more than ten types of self-developed and manufactured breeding equipment, and holds 12 authorized invention patents, over 20 utility model patents, and two software copyrights. As a strategic, foundational, and core industry, the seed sector serves as a critical cornerstone for safeguarding national food security. Mechanizing crop breeding trials is essential for scaling up breeding operations and enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of such trials. The development of a dual-channel maize plot harvester can support the high-quality development of China’s maize seed industry, thereby reinforcing national food security.
